Common ozone wastewater treatment applications:<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Wastewater disinfection<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Color removal from water<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Sludge reduction<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Odor removal from wastewater<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Degradation of toxic substances<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Common toxic substances oxidized by ozone in water:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Phenol<\/li>\n<li>Benzene<\/li>\n<li>Cyanide<\/li>\n<li>Naphthalene<\/li>\n<li>Olefins<\/li>\n<li>Pesticides<\/li>\n<li>Herbicides<\/li>\n<li>Ammonia<\/li>\n<li>Pentachlorophenol<\/li>\n<li>Ethane<\/li>\n<li>Atrazine<\/li>\n<li>MTBE<\/li>\n<li>Toluene<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is just a short list of common contaminated ozone is used to oxidize from water.\u00a0 We can provide specific information and references for each of these, along with other information as required.\u00a0 Please contact our office for more details.<\/p>\n<p><b>M<\/b><b>icropollutants, or Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDC&#8217;s)<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>removal with ozone is gaining the most attention of all ozone and wastewater treatment applications. Ozone has proven to be the most effective oxidant at removing Micropollutant and EDC&#8217;s from watewater either alone or used in conjunction with<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxidationtech.com\/aop.html\">AOP processes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Lingo:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Micropollutants: substances that are found in relatively low concentrations that are difficult or impossible to remove with conventional treatment technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDC\u2019s): substances which impact the hormone functions of animals and humans\n<ul>\n<li>Naturally or industrially produced<\/li>\n<li>disrupt growth, development or reproduction<\/li>\n<li>influence the behavior of humans and animals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Endocrine System: consists of glands and hormones that regulates the development, growth, reproduction and the behavior of animals as well as humans.<\/li>\n<li>Personal Care Products: fragrances, sunscreens, cleaning products, etc<\/li>\n<li>EDC\u2019s, pharmaceuticals and personal care products are groups of emerging contaminants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Build-up of EDC&#8217;s in wastewater is of primary concern for plants that discharge into lakes, or rivers where water may move slow and allow levels to compound over time. In some locations this same body of water is used as a supply for drinking water plants. The Great Lakes region in the United States is a great example of a body of water that is used for wastewater discharge and drinking water supply that could have a build-up of EDC&#8217;s in the water over time.<\/p>\n<p>Ozone has been tested and proven effective in removing many EDC&#8217;s in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxidationtech.com\/applications\/water-treatment\/wastewater.html\">wastwater treatment systems.<\/a> The following is a short list of EDC&#8217;s ozone has been proven effective for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Testosterone<\/li>\n<li>Androstenedione<\/li>\n<li>Progesterone<\/li>\n<li>Estradiol<\/li>\n<li>Estriol<\/li>\n<li>Estrone<\/li>\n<li>Ethynylestradiol<\/li>\n<li>Carbamazepine<\/li>\n<li>Bezafibrate<\/li>\n<li>Diclofenac<\/li>\n<li>Ibuprofen<\/li>\n<li>Sulfamethoxazole<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For
