Dark curtains or sheers? Memorabilia from the 2012 presidential campaign or his first House race in 1998? Will he hang a poster of his favorite band, Rage Against the Machine?<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"316\" data-total-count=\"316\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-viewer-candidate\" src=\"http:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2015\/11\/03\/us\/03smoke\/03smoke-master675.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"441\" height=\"294\" data-mediaviewer-src=\"http:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2015\/11\/03\/us\/03smoke\/03smoke-superJumbo.jpg\" data-mediaviewer-caption=\"The speaker's office at the Capitol had been relabeled by Friday, if not redecorated.\" data-mediaviewer-credit=\"Stephen Crowley\/The New York Times\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"story-continues-2\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"424\" data-total-count=\"740\"><em>One thing is known: He wants to get rid of the smoke left behind by his predecessor, <a title=\"More articles about John A. Boehner.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/b\/john_a_boehner\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\">John A. Boehner<\/a>. \u201cYou know when you ever go to a hotel room or get a rental car that has been smoked in? That\u2019s what this smells like,\u201d Mr. Ryan said in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/video\/paul-ryan-its-not-a-job-i-ever-wanted-556421187741\">an interview on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d on Sunday<\/a> in reference to the speaker\u2019s suite, which is of perhaps even greater interest to Mr. Ryan because he sleeps in his office.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"margainalia-placeholder\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<p id=\"story-continues-3\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"333\" data-total-count=\"1073\"><em><strong>Mr. Ryan said he would most likely rely on an \u201cozone machine\u201d to \u201cdetoxify the environment\u201d<\/strong> of the palatial speaker\u2019s office, which he apparently views as about as habitable as a smelly motel off the interstate in 1978. Deeper cleaning and a carpet change would come later, and taxpayers would be expected to foot the bill.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"333\"
