The Jacob&#8217;s Ladder does a good job of giving a visual explanation for how ozone is created on an extremely small scale. What you are seeing is essentially what is happening on the inside of an ozone generator to create ozone. The process is really quite simple, the arc that you can see is just heated ionized gas. The gas molecules like oxygen are broken down to where they are at an atomic level and then ionized. While the oxygen molecules are broken down, they can more easily collide and bind with different molecules.
