The solution? Ozonation.

What’s Causing the Problem?

The cities of Arlington and Fort Worth reported that the unusual odor and flavor were partly due to the Tarrant Regional Water District changing its water source from the Richland-Chambers Reservoir to Lake Benbrook for pipe maintenance.

However, there’s more to the story. A naturally occurring compound called geosmin has been rising. This happens in colder weather when algae in surface water die off, contributing to the strange taste and smell.

Why Ozonation?

Fort Worth has been using ozone as a disinfectant in all its treatment plants since the fall of 2012. In fact, the city was a pioneer in Texas, using ozone for primary disinfection at the Eagle Mountain Water Treatment Plant since 1993.

Benefits of Ozonation:

Oxidizes Organic Matter: Ozone effectively breaks down organic matter in raw water.

Reduces Chemical Use: By oxidizing organic materials, less coagulation chemicals are needed in the treatment process.

How Oxidation Tech Can Help

At Oxidation Tech, we provide services and repairs for city water drinking plants.
