Why the Change?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Maryville\u2019s current water treatment plant<\/a>, built in 1958, has been struggling with modern water quality challenges, including algae blooms and geosmin contamination<\/a>. Geosmin, a compound released from dying algae<\/a>, has caused significant taste and odor issues in the city\u2019s water supply. With levels reaching 2,200 nanograms per liter in Mozingo Lake\u2014over 100 times the detectable threshold\u2014it became clear that a new solution was needed.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After extensive testing and collaboration with HDR and Missouri DNR, a pilot ozone and biofiltration system<\/a> was launched in 2022 to determine the most effective treatment method. The results were overwhelmingly positive, proving that ozone oxidation paired with biofilters is the best way to remove contaminants and improve water quality.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
