Q22 ORP Sensor

Description / Q22 ORP Sensor
This replacement sensor is for the Q46R and Q45R ORP Monitors. This sensor can be used as a universal replacement sensor for a wide variety of non ATI systems or generic panel meters.
The Q22 ORP Sensor can also be used as a stand-alone ORP sensor providing either a 0-2 VDC or 4-20 mA output directly to your PLC or digital controller. The output can either be set to universal (0-1000 mv) or loop-powered (4-20 or 0-2 VDC).
ORP sensor is a 1" NPT, dual-electrode design. The electrode is fully sealed in a glass to prevent contamination of the sensor. The housing or chamber of the sensor is fully serviceable by removal of the saltbridge and replacement of the sensor solution (Part Numbers 09-0042 for 200mV or 09-0043 for 600 mV – both are 500mL bottles).

Sensor Options:
The Q22 ORP Sensor is available with various options listed & described below. Select the best option for your set up and application.
Output:
- 0-1000 mv is the Universal sensor. This is the replacement sensor used on the Q46R and Q45R ORP Monitors. This sensor can also be used in many other branded ORP analyzers.
- 4-20 mA loop-powered option requires an external 7-30 VDC power supply and provides a 4-20 mA output signal for direct connection to generic panel meters or PLC.The sensor includes integral temperature compensation so no temperature output is provided. The sensor output is uncalibrated, therefore the receiving instrument must be capable of providing user calibration of the ORP signal.
- 0-2 VDC loop-powered option requires an external 7-30 VDC power supply and provides a 0-2 VDC output signal for direct connection to generic panel meters or PLC.The sensor includes integral temperature compensation so no temperature output is provided. The sensor output is uncalibrated, therefore the receiving instrument must be capable of providing user calibration of the ORP signal.
Sensors:
The Q22R sensor is available with a few different options as listed & described below. Select the best option for your set up and application.
PEEK with cord Sensor
The sensor is constructed of molded PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) components. These components include the saltbridge, body, all rear seal components, and all internal components. The unique body is hex shaped to facilitate quick connection to standard 1" NPT fittings, and includes a titanium ground electrode to improve signal stability and enable electrode breakage diagnostic functions to be performed. The sensor features a Pt1000 RTD for high accuracy temperature measurements, and an integral preamplifier to provide a low impedance signal output capable of being driven 3000 feet with standard sensor cabling.
The sensor preamplifier contains features to monitor for electrode breakage and sensor seal failure and are encapsulated into the sensor. The sensor is highly chemical resistant, cross-linked polyethylene jacketed cable that contain two foil shields for optimum electrical performance.
The sensor saltbridge shall be a high capacity, dual-junction, high capacity device. The saltbridge shall be completely replaceable.
Insertion Sensor
The sensor is constructed of molded PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) components, but the sensor can be inserted. This is made from 316SS.
Sanitary 1 1/2" Sensor
The sensor is constructed of molded PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) components, but the sensor comes with a pre-installed 1 1/2" sanitary connection. This is made from 316SS.
Sanitary 2" Sensor
The sensor is constructed of molded PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) components, but the sensor comes with a pre-installed 2" sanitary connection. This is made from 316SS.
PEEK with electrical connector Sensor
The sensor is constructed of molded PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone) components, but the sensor comes with electrical connector. The unique body is hex shaped to facilitate quick connection to standard 1" NPT fittings, and includes a titanium ground electrode to improve signal stability and enable electrode breakage diagnostic functions to be performed.
Sensor Cable Lengths:
The sensor comes with a standard 15 foot length cable. We offer the option of 30 feet or 60 feet, but custom lengths are available upon request.
Q22 ORP Features:
- Differential-Style Sensor: The reference element consists of a second glass ORP electrode placed in a reference buffer solution. This glass reference system enables the sensor to be employed in environments that typically degrade standard ORP sensors
- PEEK® or 316SS Sensor Body Construction: All sensor housings are constructed of either PEEK®, a high performance thermoplastic that provides outstanding mechanical strength and chemical resistance, or 316 stainless steel.
- Replaceable Sensor Saltbridge: A large volume, dual junction saltbridge is used to maximize the in-service time of the sensor. The replaceable saltbridge allows for easy
and inexpensive sensor regeneration.
- Integral Preamplifier: The integral preamplifier is encapsulated in the body of the sensor. This creates a low impedance signal output which ensures stable readings in
harsh environments, and maximizes the distance between sensor and analyzer.
- Multiple Electrode Types: Sensor electrodes are user specified to ensure measurement reliability and maximum sensor lifetime. The type of pH electrode can be selected
for optimal performance. The metal ORP electrode is either platinum or gold, depending on the process chemicals.
ORP Calibration:
The Q22 ORP sensor used on the Q45R ORP Transmitter can be calibrated and rebuilt for long-term use. The ORP sensor is calibrated to a buffer solution, listed below, choose the buffer solution relevant to your ORP readings and desired calibration point. Each buffer solution product page provides detailed instructions on how to calibrate the ORP sensor.
Measure Ozone in water with ORP Meters:
How does an ORP Meter work?
ORP stands for oxidation-reduction potential. It is a measure of the ability of a solution to oxidize or reduce other substances. ORP may also be referred to as redox Potential.
ORP levels in water can be measured with an electronic ORP meter. ORP meters use electrodes in water that measure the voltage difference between the two electrodes. Water with a higher potential to lose electrons (oxidize) will create a higher ORP reading, measured in Millivolts (mv). Lower, (potentially negative) ORP values indicate the water is more reducing.
Using ORP to Measure Dissolved Ozone
ORP meters can indicate dissolved ozone levels in water. Ozone, being a strong oxidizer, increases water's ORP. However, other factors like pH, dissolved oxygen, and other substances can also affect ORP, meaning there's no direct correlation between ORP values and ozone levels.
For specific applications, ORP meters can be calibrated or correlated to known ozone levels, provided other water parameters remain stable. This makes ORP valuable for monitoring changes in dissolved ozone and general water quality.
These tools can be used to measure ozone in water for correlation purposes:
