Description / Q22 Saltbridge
Saltbridge is the replacement piece for the Q22 sensor that is part of the Q46R ORP Monitor and Q45R .
If the sensor is left out of the solution for too long, then the saltbridge piece of the sensor might be too dried out to recover. If this is the case, then purchasing this simple saltbridge replacement, along with the internal buffer solution.
Replacing the Saltbridge and Reference Buffer Solution:
1 - Hold the sensor with the process electrode pointing up. Place a cloth or towel around the saltbridge. By hand, turn the saltbridge counterclockwise to loosen and remove the saltbridge. DO NOT use pliers.
2 - Pour out the ol reference buffer by inverting the sensor (process electrode pointing down). If the reference bugger does not run out, gently shake or tap the sensor.
3 - Rinse the reference chamber of the sensor with de-ionized water. Fill the reference chamber of the sensor with fresh Reference Cell Buffer. The chamber hold 6 or 7 mL of solution. Ensure that 6 to 7 mL is used when refilling. The chamber should be FULL.
4 - Inspect the new saltbridge to verify that there are 2 o-rings inside threaded section of the saltbridge.
5- Place the new saltbridge over the ground assembly of the sensor. Place a cloth or towel around the saltbridge and hand-tighten the saltbridge by turning it clockwise.
Measure Ozone in water with ORP Meters:
How does an ORP Meter work?
ORP stands for oxidation-reduction potential. It is a measure of the ability of a solution to oxidize or reduce other substances. ORP may also be referred to as redox Potential.
ORP levels in water can be measured with an electronic ORP meter. ORP meters use electrodes in water that measure the voltage difference between the two electrodes. Water with a higher potential to lose electrons (oxidize) will create a higher ORP reading, measured in Millivolts (mv). Lower, (potentially negative) ORP values indicate the water is more reducing.
Using ORP to Measure Dissolved Ozone
ORP meters can indicate dissolved ozone levels in water. Ozone, being a strong oxidizer, increases water's ORP. However, other factors like pH, dissolved oxygen, and other substances can also affect ORP, meaning there's no direct correlation between ORP values and ozone levels.
For specific applications, ORP meters can be calibrated or correlated to known ozone levels, provided other water parameters remain stable. This makes ORP valuable for monitoring changes in dissolved ozone and general water quality.
These tools can be used to measure ozone in water for correlation purposes:
