Aclarus Home Ozone Water System
It has come to our attention that some versions of the Aclarus home ozone water system utilize an ozone generator that is an unsafe fire hazard. This ozone generator is easily replaced with a reliable and safe ozone generator so that you can continue to use the water system.
Parts Needed:
- 10-gauge female cord
- 3 wire nuts
- Cord grip
- VMUS-K ozone generator
- VMD-12 air dryer
We noticed this problem during a repair is with the AOWT-7.
The Problem
The ozone generator cell inside the controller is made of plastic and is prone to burning through when the cell gets contaminated. This cell is powered by a line frequency high voltage transformer. No ozone generator cell should ever be made out of plastic like this.
This ozone generator cell can be easily disconnected from power by clipping the transformer wires and removing the transformer as shown below.
The Aclarus system controller turns on the ozone generator and injection pump for 15 seconds when water flow is detected by the flow switch. We want to disconnect the existing ozone generator and replace it with a female end power cord to power a VMUS-K ozone generator.
Steps Taken to Retrofit
1) Unplug the controller from power.

2) Cut the three wires on the left side of the transformer. (transformer can be left in, or removed after cutting the high voltage wire as well)
6) Mount the VMUS-K and the VMD-12 on the wall.
7) Use ozone compatible tubing from the ozone out on the VMUS-K ozone generator to the venturi suction port.
8) Use the tube with the moisture indicator that comes with the VMD-12 to connect the air dryer output to the VMUS-K feed gas inlet.
9) Plug the controller back in.
10) Plug the pump into the pump outlet on the controller.
11) Plug the VMUS-K ozone generator to the new outlet cord you installed. ( You may want to test the function of the VMUS-K ozone generator by plugging it into a powered outlet. Turn it on. Blow into the feed gas inlet with your mouth and piece of tubing. The ozone generator should turn on and a blue light indicating ozone is being made)
12) Plug in the VMD-12 into a continuously powered outlet. The dryer stays on all the time.
13) Turn on a faucet to activate the Aclarus water flow switch. – this should make a click on the controller and the pump and ozone generator should come on.
14) The digital display on the VMUS-K will indicate how much suction flow the venturi is producing.
The display should show at least 1 LPM of suction flow, blue light on, and water pump running. Undissolved ozone gas will be venting from the air vent on the contact tank.
Let us know if you run into any further problems. If it turns out that the whole injection setup is not working like it originally did, we can help diagnose the problem.
More Options
If a repair of your Aclarus system is not feasible, we offer our WT system as a replacement. Our WT system has the pump, tank, and ozone, and controller all in one small skid. View the product details in the WT system link here.
