New treatment uses ozone and oxygen in hand-held device to treat herniated discs

Herniated disc sufferers at Vancouver General Hospital are being treated with ozone/oxygen treatment to reduce the size of their herniation (lower back) and ultimately reduce their pain and suffering.

The oxidating effect of the ozone/oxygen appears to shrink the disc and pulls the herniation away from the irritated nerve.

“There was a strong suggestion that patients got better more rapidly with the treatment. What we’re hoping to see here is that through the ozone process, healing will occur rapidly and patients won’t need other interventions like repeated steroid (cortisone) injections and surgery,” said Dr. Peter Munk, the lead radiologist in the study.

“The disc is like a fibrous doughnut and you get a herniation when an inner part of the disc bulges out through a weakened area,” Munk said, adding that the majority of herniations occur in the lower back, potentially leading to pain in the back and legs by pinching on spinal nerves.

The studies main objective (now recruiting 25 participants) is to determine the safety of the injection delivery system. CT imaging is used to precisely guide the needle (similar to what is used in complicated epidurals.

The whole process takes approximately 20 minutes and is an outpatient service.

The procedure should reduce the cost to the health care system compared to more traditional treatments (surgery etc) and reduce the level of complications patients have to endure.

Dr. Kieran Murphy (University Health Network) developed the treatment (AO-1000) which is owned by Active-O Inc.

The treatment is available in other countries however the new device is handheld and utilizes a syringe delivery system.

For the patient, it adds another layer of treatment before having to consider surgery which many people view as a last resort.

Ozone Therapy for TB treatment

Ozone Therapy in India successfully treats patients with TB.  Great news story out about the use of ozone for the treatment of patients with TB.

Bhavesh Thakkar has been holed up in the depressing surgery ward of Asia’s largest tuberculosis hospital in Sewri for over a year. Thakkar, 39, developed Empyema, collection of pus in the pleural cavity. The condition requires drainage of pus from the chest every day.

“The drainage bag would fill with a litre of pus every day. I had no strength to stand, and had lost hope,” Thakkar said. Ozone therapy, however, has turned around his deteriorating condition.

“Recently, doctors brought in a machine, and started me on a saline wash for the lungs through an incision on my chest.” After 20 sessions, the leaking pus has stopped, and efforts are on to make Thakkar infection-free. He is on anti-TB medication and may need surgical intervention for damaged lungs.

Bisleri International Pvt Ltd donated the ozone therapy contraption to the Sewri TB Hospital two years ago. It lay gathering dust until a month ago when a group of surgeons felt that it could be useful for critical TB patients.

The machine emits ultra-violet light sparks which split oxygen into free molecules and generate two per cent ozone and 98 per cent oxygen. “Basically, oxygenated ozone is sent through a tube mixed with saline. A saline wash is administered to infected wounds,” said Dr Lalit Anande, Chief Medical Officer, Sewri TB Hospital.

“Ozone has worked on patients on their death bed. It works as painkiller and an anti-inflammatory, has immunity-boosting anti-oxidants, and kills germs. About 40 patients have benefited from the therapy so far,” said Dr Anande.

Ozone therapy can also be administered through drinking water route for all TB patients and hospital staffers to boost their immunity, Dr Anande said.

The therapy was used during World War I to disinfect wounds, but somehow it has not seeped into the Indian fabric of treatment, says Dr Kuntal Pal, a leading pulmonologist from Mumbai. “We will need to study the patients who are being administered the therapy at the Sewri TB Hospital to understand how well it works,” he said.

Ozone therapy banned in Malaysia

Ozone therapy has finally been gaining some mainstream traffic worldwide in the last few years.  In fact, at recent IOA conferences, and in the Ozone Journal medical applications of ozone has finally been given, time, space and honest evaluation.

However, the country of Malaysia has recently banned ozone in medical applications by blanketly banning “ozone therapy”.

This ban is getting reconsidered due to requests in the country:

BALIK PULAU: The Health Ministry will do an indepth study on “ozone therapy” after the Ozone Medical Practitioners Association Malaysia asked that the ban on the treatment be reconsidered.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the ministry would take another look although the treatment has been found to be dangerous and offers no benefit to patients.

“Ozone therapy is a dangerous treatment as it has a molecule that is unstable and can produce air bubbles in the blood,” he told reporters after attending the Jom Cari Siput contest here yesterday.

Ozone Therapy An alternative for cancer patients

Read original article HERE:

CANCER treatment is no longer confined to surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. New treatment methods, including cryosurgery, NanoKnife and immunotherapy, have emerged to bring new hope for patients.

Dr. Chen Jibingof Fuda Cancer Hospitalin Guangzhou, China recently introduced Ozone therapy, reputed as the world’s safest cancer treatment method. A biological response modifier, the treatment enhances the body’s immune response to antigens.

Ozone is a strong oxidant that aids the removal of bacteria and viruses, activates the immune system, and improves the microcirculation and oxygen supply. Ozone Therapy uses Ozomed Smart a high precision equipment developed in Europe, that converts oxygen to medical ozone which ismixed with the patients’ blood. The solution is intravenouslyinfused back to the patient. The process stimulates and augments the leukocyte phagocytosis that regulate the internal environment and enhance the body’s immunity.

Ozone Therapy is designed to improve the patients’ health condition and their life quality. As the ozone is infused into the body, it reacts with the body fluid and generates peroxide that can kill cancer cells, regulate the activity of tumor antibody and boost the anti-tumor
function of the body. Ozone therapy is especially suitable for cancer patients who are prone to severe side effects caused by high-dosage chemotherapy drug.

The malignant proliferation rate of cells is monitored by the STK1 test, an internationally recognized cancer screening method used in physical examination, clinical screening of malignant proliferation lesions and post-treatment tracking monitoring.

Studies at Fuda Cancer Hospital have shown that ozone therapy can lower the expression level of STK1 among the progression-free cancer survivors.

A significant number of Filipino cancer patients have been going to Guangzhou to seek treatment at Fuda Cancer Hospital, mainly because modern cancer curing methods like cryosurgery, Nanoknife, and immunotherapy are not available in the Philippines.

Approved in 2012 by the FDA, the Nanoknife procedure is  a minimally invasive, probe-based technology that involves the insertion of electrodes that release high-voltage pulses of up to 10,000 volts. The strong surge can instantly destroy the tumor cells. Pancreatic cancer patients need not undergo Whipple Surgery because the strong electricity can remove the tumor in the pancreas.

Another ablation technique for cancer treatment isCryosurgery. It destroys tumors by cycles of freezing and thawing. Once the
temperature falls below -40oC, ice crystals form within the cells which causes cell death.

The development of cancer is closely related to the state of one’s immune system. To prevent the cancer recurrence and matastasis, the physicians at Fuda recommends immunotherapy, a process that sensitizes the immune system and prevents cancer development.

Worn-out of the conventional medicinal treatments? Try ozone therapy, instead

Worn-out of the conventional medicinal treatments? Try ozone therapy, instead. Widely used during World War I to disinfect wounds and which has proved to be useful in treating chronic cases of asthma, chronic obstructive airway disease, diabetic foot ulcers, various cancers and more.

The blue-coloured form of oxygen, which nourishes healthy cells and destroys malfunctioning ones, rejuvenates cells and helps in healing wounds and repairing tissues.

“It is safe and is very effective because it attacks and removes disease-causing agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeast and toxic metals,” Dr S.S. Sibia, Director, Sibia Medical Centre, Ludhiana told IANS. Ozone is an element found naturally in the atmosphere and a molecule consists of three atoms of oxygen. It quickly combines with the blood, lymph and other tissues of body and is more powerful than plain Oxygen.

When medical ozone enters the bloodstream, it separates into O2 and O, the healthy cells, armed with antioxidants, absorb the O2 and repel the O, which zeroes in on the diseased cells and neutralizes them, Sibia explained. “We also use it as complementary therapy in treatment of various types of cancers and for general immune-activation for allergic diseases and improve the body’s inherent resistance,” Sibia added.

The most commonly reported success stories are of diabetic foot treatment with Ozone. Ozone therapy is administered in many different ways in the human body–drinking ozonated water, saunas, rectal means, intravesical, ozonated saline, soft tissue and joint injection and directly ozonating the patient’s blood.

Ozone can be injected into and around the joints for the treatment of inflamed and painful joints and is even effective for non-healing ulcers. Ozonised oil is used as an ointment for pain relief and is even used as antiseptic. There’s another aspect to ozone therapy.

“It involves injecting ozone into the skin, which boosts oxygen levels and helps to deeply cleanse impurities in the skin. It is used for the treatment of both oily and acne skin and also reduces inflammation,” Dr Chiranjiv Chabbra, Dermatologist, Skin Alive Clinic, New Delhi told IANS.

“Ozone therapy works wonders for most people. It’s100 per cent natural with zero chemicals, zero medication, zero down time, zero discomfort, and zero side effects. It’s relatively affordable too,” Chabbra added.

To this end, Ozone can be used to balance the skin’s ph level and lighten its tone. It also works wonders for lines, wrinkles and open pores. “A large number of people are coming to resolve issues of infected skin and we recommend ozone therapy as it helps to get rid of dry and infected layers,” Dr Priyanka Prakash, Dermatologist, Paras Hospital, Gurgaon told IANS.

Many centres offer ozone therapy for aesthetics and against dandruff, acne and a host of other skin conditions.
“We use ozone therapy primarily to treat problems of infected skin as it helps in killing the bacterial activity that causes acne or dandruff,” Prakash noted.

“Ozone therapy should be avoided in early pregnancy and care needs to be taken in patients with hyperthyroidism, bleeding problems, deficiency of Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase–which could lead to jaundice and epilepsy, Sibia concluded.

Ozone therapy: A revolutionary beauty technique

As we get older, the signs of aging begin to appear and our skin loses elasticity. However, Ozone Therapy, a new treatment technique, has come to the rescue as it helps to prevent the early signs of maturing and keeps skin glowing without cosmetic intervention.
We met up with Dr. Nada Alaaeddine, a specialist in regenerative medicine at Beirut’s Innovi Cell Therapy Clinic, to find out more about Ozone Therapy.

file-08-1449608834948663900.jpg

How can Ozone Therapy help?
Ozone Therapy stimulates the body to repair itself by using pure medical oxygen. A small amount of blood is taken from the client and Ozone 03 is added to it, in a sterile and concentrated manner, then it is injected into the body under the supervision of specialists. Ozone Therapy promotes blood circulation to carry renewed life to cells, increasing oxygen in every cell in the body and providing it with energy and vitality.
Since the treatment is a natural anti-oxidant, it eliminates viruses, bacteria and other impurities, and it contributes to healing many diseases, especially skin diseases. What’s more, it delays the signs of aging.

How is it performed?
There are two ways to perform Ozone Therapy, either through injections into the blood stream or through an ozone sauna, which has two phases. During phase one, in an equipped and sterile room, the client puts on an oxygen mask to stop the air inside the room fusing with the treatment and turning it into a toxic substance that could cause damage. Ozone Therapy is used to open the pores and to achieve cell renewal at a certain temperature, under the supervision of a doctor who specializes in the technique.
During phase two, the ozone sauna is completed with a massage using creams, especially made for each woman from stem cells in the laboratory.

Does this technology eliminate the signs of aging or prevent them from appearing?
This treatment fights aging from the inside, regardless of whether it shows deeply or superficially on the skin. The therapy works by getting rid of toxins in the body and invokes cell regeneration that reflects freshness on the skin and makes it more youthful. This technique does not eliminate wrinkles forever, but helps in delaying the signs of maturing.

Are there any side effects and is the technique scientifically proven?
Ozone Therapy is completely safe and without any side effects, it has been scientifically proven and has treated a number of diseases and skin cases. It is universally supported, particularly in Germany, Italy and Madrid. Many of those who have undergone this treatment have achieved the desired result and their skin has regained its glow and freshness, enabling them to enjoy a more balanced and youthful look. The effectiveness of this technique lies in fighting wrinkles by not allowing their early progress, or so-called premature aging.

How effective is it?
This treatment is described as incredible due to its ability to implant freshness and youth into skin after the first session. The effectiveness of this technique might vary from one woman to another, as it is affected by age, skin type and the number of sessions to get the desired result.

How many sessions should be done for an optimal result?
This depends first on your skin and how affected it is by the signs of aging, but preferably sessions should take place once every three months. The treatment is not costly and every woman can do it.

So can it be performed at any age?
Age does not play a major role in this procedure, but it is recommended for people above the age of 20.

Can men benefit from this technique as well?
Wrinkles are considered a major concern for women and men alike. Many men look after their appearance and resort to using this technique. The treatment is modern and sophisticated as it renews cells and maintains a glowing look.

Are there daily routines or a certain diet that must be followed post-treatment?
It is not necessary to adhere to a certain diet or exercise, even though this contributes to maintaining healthy skin.

Is it considered a substitute for Botox?
No, it is different from Botox in terms of composition and method of application. It is a natural protein substance extracted from a type of bacteria that works to remove wrinkles around the eyes and forehead by injections. Ozone Therapy works to stimulate cells and get rid of toxins in the body through the use of the ozone sauna or by blood injection.

Can you give a few tips to avoid looking older?
Women shouldn’t delay in solving skin problems and addressing them so they can protect themselves against premature aging. Keeping in shape is as important as looking after one’s health. An ideal and glowing look confirms a woman’s self-confidence.

Ozone used for treatment of arthritis

Ozone use in medical applications is gaining awareness here in the USA.  While ozone has been used in medical clinics and dental offices worldwide for some time, the growth of ozone use in the USA has been slower to gain traction.

The great article below about a study using ozone vs traditional steroid shots is a great example of ozone use in medical applications for the treatment of arthritis in joints.

Knee Arthritis: Steroid Shots May Not Help Long-Term, Ozone Injections Promising

Millions of aging Americans are plagued by arthritic knees, and two new studies offer insight into what might — or might not — help curb the condition.

Both studies were presented this week at the American College of Rheumatology’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

One study found that a popular therapy, steroid drug injections, do nothing to slow progression of osteoarthritis in the knee. This type of treatment is common, but has never been specifically tested, and there are concerns about its safety, according to a team led by Dr. Tim McAlindon, chief of rheumatology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

His team tracked outcomes for 140 people — mainly overweight white women — with knee arthritis who averaged 58 years of age. The patients received either injections of the steroid triamcinolone hexacetonide, or placebo injections of saline, every three months for two years.

While the steroid injections were deemed to be safe, they did not improve long-term outcomes of pain, mobility or joint damage compared to the placebo, the Boston researchers reported.

But two experts who reviewed the findings said that steroid shots may still have a place in knee arthritis care.

“It is widely accepted that these injections do not alter the natural progression of knee osteoarthritis, but are used for symptom reduction,” noted Dr. Neil Roth, an orthopedic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

In fact, he said, there is no injection that halts progression of knee osteoarthritis. Presently, however, steroid shots “are helpful in alleviating the pain associated with arthritis inflammation,” Roth said.

Dr. Calin Moucha is chief of adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He agreed with Roth that “steroid injections should continue to be used for temporary symptom relief in patients with moderate to severe osteoarthritis who are trying to postpone knee replacement surgery.”

Moucha also believes that healthy weight loss and “low-impact aerobic physical activity” can help ease the discomfort of knee arthritis.

The Boston researchers agreed that steroid shots may have a place as a short-term method of pain relief. “Additionally, the dose was fairly small [40 milligrams], and we might have seen greater effects with a higher strength formulation,” McAlindon said in a meeting news release.

Other treatments for arthritic knees may be on the horizon, however. A second, small study found that injections of ozone gas into the joint reduced pain and improved movement for people with knee osteoarthritis.

The Brazilian trial included 63 patients who received injections of ozone gas into the knee and a control group of 35 who received injections of air. Previous research has suggested that ozone, a naturally occurring gas, may help reduce inflammation.

The patients who received the ozone gas showed significant improvements in pain, physical function, overall health and quality of life, compared to those in the control group, the researchers said. However, there were no major differences between the two groups in the amount of time it took them to stand up, walk, return and sit.

Researchers Carlos Cesar Lopes de Jesus and Virginia Fernandes Moca Trevisani, of Federal University of Sao Paulo’s Paulista School of Medicine, believe that the ozone injections may ease pain for patients and delay the need for joint replacement surgery.

However, they added that further research is need to confirm these findings and to determine whether ozone could offer an alternative treatment.

Roth agreed that the research is promising but preliminary.

Ozone-Oxygen Therapy for treatment of slipped disc

Oxygen-ozone therapy is emerging as a better treatment option than surgery for people suffering from slipped disc due to its minimally invasive procedure and speedy recovery, doctors say.

Experts said the procedure, which was first tried in Europe, leaves no surgical scars on the skin and the patient can be discharged from hospital on the same day compared to surgery which takes weeks.

Slipped or herniated disk is a condition when one of the discs in the spine ruptures and the gel inside leaks out. It causes numbness and pain along the affected nerve. In severe cases, the patient may require surgery to remove or repair the slipped disc.

Pardeep Muley, head of interventional radiology at city-based Fortis hospital, said: “In this procedure, a oxygen-ozone mixture is slowly injected into an artery or vein with a hypodermic syringe.

“The injection results in release of water molecules and subsequent cell degeneration of the matrix, which is replaced by fibrous tissues in five weeks and the formation of new blood cells. Together, these events result in a reduction in disk volume and slowly and slowly cures the problem,” he said.

He said the ozone-oxygen therapy stops the further shrinkage of disc.

Bidhur Gupta from Safdarjung Hospital, a spine expert, said that at the end of the treatment, patients are advised to rest in supine position — lying flat on one’s back — for two hours and walk away on the same day.

“Until a few decades ago, patients with disc herniation had only one treatment option — surgery. But thanks to advanced technology, less radical option is now available,” he said.

Among other benefits of the ozone-oxygen therapy is the lesser risk compared to surgery, cheaper than traditional surgery, exact localisation of the disease is possible through image guidance and procedure done under local anaesthesia.

Gupta said the therapy was helpful in treatment of many other health complications such as heart disease, cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

“It is also used for treating abscesses and other signs of infections. Ozone is sometimes used to stop dental cavities from progressing,” he said.

ROYAL OAK, Mich., July 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Woodside Animal Clinic in Royal Oak, Michigan is pleased to announce the addition of ozone therapy to its list of veterinary and holistic services. Ozone therapy offers promising treatment options for a wide range of health conditions that impact household pets, including birds, cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, rodents and ferrets. Ozone therapy was developed in Germany and has been used by veterinarians for more than 30 years. It is currently practiced by both physicians and veterinarians in Germany, France, England, and Canada as well as in 14 U.S. states.

Dr. John Simon of Woodside Animal Clinic in Royal Oak, Michigan, believes offering ozone therapy is a great way to use the power of nature to heal many conditions that are common to household pets. “Ozone therapy,” says Dr. Simon, “is arguably the most powerful detoxification therapy available today. Using it on pets allows their immune systems to function more effectively in order to protect them against many diseases.”

Ozone therapy works to protect against fungal, bacterial and viral infections as well as to treat many diseases that are common among pets. It also offers anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects thereby reducing pain and alleviating discomfort. Its ability to stimulate the immune system is very important when it comes to treating infectious diseases and cancer. Among the key benefits of ozone therapy is the way it works. It detoxifies the body by adding oxygen while removing various toxins from the body. “Since a lack of oxygen on a cellular level is one of the key conditions for the formation of cancer, it can be argued that ozone therapy helps to create an atmosphere that is hostile for the growth of cancer in the body,” says Dr. Simon. Ozone therapy further aids in the body’s resistance to cancer by increasing the production of antioxidants in the animal’s body. These antioxidants latch on to free radicals in the body rendering them harmless and creating an environment that is patently unfavorable for the formation and/or growth of cancer.

This type of therapy can help treat a wide range of conditions, including: respiratory diseases, feline leukemia, canine malignant lymphoma, fungal infections, allergies, skin infections, infected wounds, ear infections, inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmune disease, heart disease, liver disease and kidney disease.

Treatment with ozone therapy is safe because the animals themselves indicate if they are getting too much ozone by coughing, during treatment. Pet owners interested in setting up a holistic consult pertaining to ozone therapy should call for an appointment at (248) 545-6630.

Ozone Therapy: Hope for Chronic Illnesses

By Rick Ansorge

When patients come to Howard Robins, they have been sick for a long time, they’ve tried conventional treatments, and they are running out of hope. They come to him with chronic fatigue, lupus, herpes, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, cancer, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and more.

Very often, they leave his care not only with hope, but with their health restored.
Robins, an international expert in natural healing, is one of the world’s leading practitioners of ozone therapy, a technique in which a patient’s blood is infused with medical grade oxygen (O2) and ozone (O3).
“The people who are coming to me have pretty much given up,” Robins tells Newsmax Health. “They find out ozone exists and that it might have a chance to help them.”
In most cases, it works wonders, he says.
“The earlier a person comes in with any condition, the better we can fix them,” he says. “If it’s not too late, then we can turn it around, sometimes to the point where they don’t have any symptoms anymore.”
Ozone was first used in medicine at the end of the 19th century to treat tuberculosis.
During World War I, medics used it to disinfect wounds. Since the 1950s, ozone therapy has gained popularity throughout the world. More than 45,000 physicians in 50 countries now administer ozone.
Ozone is typically administered with one of two different IV methods:
Major Auto-Hemotherapy (MAH), in which blood is drawn from the patient, exposed to ozone and re-injected into the patient.

Direct Intravenous Ozone Therapy (DIV), in which oxygen and ozone are directly infused into the patient’s bloodstream.
Although MAH improves many diseases and conditions, it rarely eliminates them. So many doctors prefer DIV, which is safer to perform, yet more powerful in its effects.
“DIV is the only way you can get rid of something,” says Robins.
According to proponents, ozone therapy is broadly effective because it attacks and removes disease-causing agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, molds, yeast, and toxic metals.
Because ozone is an oxygen molecule without an electron, it is attracted to electron-rich microorganisms. After it strips away the organisms’ electrons, the cause of the disease dies.
Healthy human cells aren’t affected because they produce antioxidants that make them impervious to ozone.
Ozone also has the ability to chelate toxic metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum, and arsenic, a process which transforms the metals into oxides that are excreted from the body in urine.
Ozone is used to treat:
Infectious diseases such as candida, Epstein-Barr, hepatitis B and C, herpes 1 and 2, herpes zoster, HIV/AIDS, Lyme disease, measles, and pneumonia.

Chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), dementia, fibromyalgia, heart disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis, reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), and scleroderma.

Eye problems such as conjunctivitis, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Skin problems such as acne and eczema.
Although ozone therapy is often denigrated by mainstream physicians in the U.S., in other countries such as Germany, it is considered safe and a standard of care.
“When people ask why ozone therapy isn’t more available in the United States, I say it’s because it’s not a patentable medicine and the drug companies can’t make any money off it,” says Robins. “That’s probably the main reason why it’s been suppressed.”
