Turnkey Class I, Div 2 Ozone System

150 g/hr Ozone Generation with Integrated Dissolution

Oxidation Technologies recently designed and built a complete turnkey ozone generation and injection system for operation in a Class I, Division 2 hazardous environment. The skid-mounted system produces 150 g/hr of ozone from oxygen and delivers dissolved ozone directly into process water using an integrated ozone injection package.

This project demonstrates our ability to engineer fully compliant ozone systems for hazardous locations, combining ozone generation, injection, cooling, and enclosure pressurization into a single reliable package.

System Overview

The system was designed as a self-contained ozone generation and dissolution skid suitable for installation in a Class I, Division 2 classified area, where flammable vapors or gases may be present under abnormal conditions.

Key features include:

  • 150 g/hr ozone production
  • Oxygen-fed ozone generator
  • Integrated ozone injection system
  • Complete dissolved ozone delivery
  • Pressurized control enclosure
  • Class I, Div 2 rated enclosure cooling
  • Turnkey skid-mounted design

The system allows the customer to install a complete ozone treatment solution with minimal field integration.

Hazardous Area Design

To meet Class I, Division 2 requirements, the system includes a pressurized electrical enclosure, certified enclosure cooling, purge and pressurization controls, and hazardous-area compliant electrical components.

The enclosure pressurization system maintains positive pressure inside the cabinet, preventing hazardous vapors from entering the electrical enclosure while maintaining compliance with safety standards.

Oxygen-Fed Generation and Integrated Injection

Ozone is produced using oxygen generated internally from compressed air supplied to the system. Oxygen-fed operation provides higher ozone concentrations, improved dissolution efficiency, reduced gas flow requirements, and higher overall system efficiency.

The skid includes a complete ozone dissolution and injection package with ozone-resistant piping, an injector, gas-liquid mixing, contact piping, and off-gas handling provisions. This design delivers dissolved ozone directly into the process water stream with minimal installation requirements.

Applications

Hazardous-location ozone systems are commonly used in:

  • Chemical processing
  • Petrochemical operations
  • Oil and gas facilities
  • Industrial wastewater treatment
  • Process water treatment
  • Cooling water treatment

These demanding industrial environments require reliable and compliant ozone treatment solutions.
